Nature

Tonight while I was taking a walk with my Mom we spotted a rabbit.  It sat there staring at us out of the corner of its eye until a car honked.  Then it turned and ran away with its little cottontail waving goodbye to us.  We also found huge bushes of honeysuckle.  We picked some and drank the nectar.  We took some flowers home and put them in a little cup.  Those flowers definitely mean Spring.  On the way back I saw several worms crawling around on the sidewalk.  So, I gently picked them up and placed them in the grass.  (That's hard to do when they're so close to the ground and so squirmy.)  We watered our tomato plants until there were huge puddles around them.  I'm looking forward to planting flowers this weekend.

SOL Eve

Tonight's the night before the Reading SOL.  Unlike other children, I'm excited because I get lots of reading time while I'm waiting for some of the other kids to finish their tests.  Our desks are turned around so we can't put our hands inside them.  I think that's so we can't cheat.  The desks are scattered all over the room so it's hard to walk around.  I have to go sharpen my pencils now because we're not allowed to use mechanical pencils.  Wish me luck.

Why Boys Annoy Me part 1

Annoying, annoying, annoying!  Alien lovers, nose pickers, boasters and control freaks!  They always have to be in charge or talk about video games.  One boy in my class insists on sticking his erasers in his mouth, sucking on them like candy and then spitting them out.  Some boys are unfair when we play kickball at recess.  I don't always want to be on the girl's team because girls can be such drama queens.  But the boys won't let me on the boy's team.  So now I don't play anymore.  Imagine how serene it would be in an all girl's school.  But, I might miss some of the annoying things the boys do.

Is School Supposed to Be Fair?

Is school supposed to be fair?  I already know the answer.  NO it is NOT!!  If two students so much as whisper in the hallway, we miss two minutes of recess.  Only the people who were talking should miss recess.  When one person is messing around in the classroom, the teacher stops teaching and goes and pouts at her desk.  I guess she thinks that will help.  IT does NOT!!  It's just a chain reaction.  Kids start yelling at each  other to be quiet and the room becomes a jungle of voices.  When one student, yes just one, continuously yells out, the teacher gets mad at everyone.  Ah, yes.  Then there's P.E.  If only a couple students are walking during our laps, the P.E. instructor adds on extra laps for the whole class.  Can you tell me how that's fair?  If three people fail the push-up test, why does everyone have to retake it? My Mom has told stories about the Army, and her stories and mine sound very similar.  My Mom says the Army uses mass punishment because they want people to gang up on the one who's misbehaving. Do the teachers want us  to sharpen our pencils and stab the misbehaving child?  Or, maybe we should knock their lunch tray out of their hands.  Good thing I wasn't told that life is always fair on Cassidy Street.

Here is the reason I named this blog Life Is Not Like Sesame Street.  This show  advertises a perfect world with adults dancing and singing with high pitched puppets.  By the time you've been exposed to the world as long as I have you know this is totally false.  The purpose of my writing this is to tell what life is like for a 10 year old and to show my point of view.  If you have any questions you can post a comment.  Welcome to Cassie Street.
